Belling the Cat

I am a cat. And you know the old saying about curiosity and cats. So really, is it my fault that I get into places that sometimes I can't get out of? I think not. Is this reason enough to make me wear a collar with a bell on it? Absolutely not. But the girls here decided that just because I got stuck in the dog sink room 3 times and the dog food closet twice that I can't be trusted and now have the collar and bell on. I was simply doing my job and making sure things were secure. Not my fault that they have a thing about closing doors.

Now...I must admit that the collar is a pretty color. And the bell kind of sounds pretty when it jingles. But that's just between us. Don't tell the girls that maybe...just MAYBE...I kind of like it.

So..if you come to visit me...just follow the sound of the bell. My days of stalking and sneaking are over. ~Hissy. E~

Yelp For Help

This is a picture of a dog that many of you may know as Ronald. He was a pomeranian who suffered greatly at the hands of a human before coming to our shelter. I didn't get to meet him, but the girls here who knew him often talk about how special he was. They say that he taught them about what it means to be a fighter and to love life. He also taught them that even though there are people in the world who don't value an animal's life, there are so so many more who do. Ronald was also known as CareBear. A very special lady adopted him and renamed him in honor of all the people who had to come together to care for Ronald that day. CareBear has sinced passed away, but we hope that the legacy he leaves behind will continue to honor him and all of the other animals that have come here and been saved.

Now, the shelter has started a fund called Yelp for Help. This fund will allow people to donate money that will go directly to helping animals who come to us needing emergency medical attention. Animals like Carebear. And Pirate, a little kitten who had to have his eye removed because it was so badly infected and couldn't be saved. And Rocky, who came to us emaciated and terrified after living tied to a doghouse for 7 years with barely any food or human contact. And Clint, who needed his leg amputated after a bad fall. Or Buddy, the puppy who had a broken pelvis after being beaten with a golf club. The list goes on and on.

We hope that this fund will help the shelter to save everyone who comes to us for a second chance. I might not have needed special medical attention...but they saved my life. Now with everyone's help...we can save more.

If you'd like to donate to this fund, please let the girls know when you come into the shelter. They will make sure that it happens. And if you're mailing us a donation, put in a little note to let us know that it's for Yelp for Help. I promise to keep you posted on all of the animals that this money helps. ~Hissy.E~

The Price of Fame

Well....it's happened. I kept telling the girls here at the shelter that it was inevitable. They were skeptical but as usual, I was right. I have become a superstar. It's only a matter of time before the paparazzi start showing up, camping outside the shelter trying to get photos of me while my hundreds (of thousands) of fans scream for me to bless them with a word or a look. If you don't believe me....read for yourself.

This Tracy person has tried to claim that it's her that writes these blogs. She doesn't. It's all me. If only you could see me typing away at the computer...you would know. Thank you to Jody at STU for recognizing how truly amazing I am!

On a lighter note..Doyle the cat was adopted yesterday. Yay for Doyle!

So...if you'd like to come in and meet me...I will be holding autograph sessions for the next week. You might want to call ahead to see if there's a line-up. I expect there will be. ~Hissy.E~

Kind Heart Kids Club

Day 3 of office cat duty and all is well. Security checks aren't taking up as much of my day as I thought they might so I thought I would take this opportunity to tell you about the fun, new club that we have started here at the shelter.
The Kind Heart Kids Club was started to help bring children together who have a common love of animals and who want to learn more about how to care for their pets and how to make our world a better place for all living creatures. The club will have a quarterly newsletter sent out that will have games, and stories and facts. There will be opportunities for club members to submit their own articles for the newsletter too. There will be events and contests throughout the year exclusively for club members and with a yearly membership...kids will get a goodie bag. A membership for 1 year is only $5.00. What a great gift for a child who loves animals! Just come into the shelter and register....it couldn't be easier! Or contact us and we can mail you a membership form!
If you have any questions about the Kind Heart Kids Club, just call the shelter and talk to one of the girls. As much as I love to chat...I will probably be busy lounging or playing....my work is never done. ~Hissy.E~

A Partial Reprieve

So....I've been "promoted"....I have a new job. Apparently the girls here didn't think I was busy enough being cute and eating and blogging. I am now also the "Office Cat". It's been explained to me that my new job entails greeting people when they come to visit, wandering around the shelter making sure everything is safe and secure, keeping an eye on the girls while they do their job, and of course, being cute and accepting treats. It's exhausting work. I better get extra canned food in the mornings. This is Day 2 of my new job. I hope I get adopted soon. I need the rest.

For those of you who pay attention to other cats besides me (I can't imagine why)...Arizona and Quigley both found new homes yesterday. 2 paws up for them! It's still a little crowded in the cat room though. Still so many waiting......~Hissy.E~

Getting Crowded in Here!

Hi everyone! I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter long weekend! Here at the shelter, things were pretty quiet. The weather was amazing so lots of people were out enjoying the warmth with their families. We did have some visitors though so between looking cute and lounging in the sun, I'm pretty exhausted.

If you've been in lately to visit with us...you might have noticed that there's alot more of us fabulous felines waiting for new homes. Girls, boys, orange ones, brown ones, gray ones, black ones (who I have to just say are really the most beautiful and intelligent), all shapes and sizes and most importantly, all different personalities. We even have some long-timers here who are part of the Luv-a-Life club (I'm part of the club...we can be adopted for only $50). I took a few pictures of some of the other cats that are here waiting for a family (not as amazing as me but they'll do in a pinch). If the pictures don't make you want to come and adopt...just remember...I don't have thumbs so holding the camera was not easy!

So...get off that computer chair, and take a drive or walk in to see us! We've been practicing our cuteness and we're ready! ~Hissy. E~

Ripley-Our Senior Boy

This is Ripley. He's a 10 year old collie mix who came to the shelter on March 19/10. His owner died and he had no where else to go. It's a sad story with what we hope is a happy ending. Ripley had badly infected ears when he first came in to us...so badly infected that he can't hear very well anymore. The wonderful vets over at Oromocto Veterinary Hospital were able to clean them out really well and start him on the proper medicine. He feels ALOT better now. And just between you and I, he smells alot better now too. So..Ripley just wanted me to let you all know that he's ready for a new home. He loves to go for walks. He's older and wiser than most dogs so he won't pee in your house. I have to admit..even though I'm a cat...he's a pretty good guy. If you drop in to visit him...maybe you could stop into the cat room to see me too. And don't forget...all treats are gladly accepted. ~Hissy E.~
