Kojo's Letter

My name is Kojo and I am a dog who desperately needs your help. I have been searching for my family for just over 3 years now. Extreme circumstances now call for extreme measures and I am reaching out to the public to help me.

I am told that my family probably has children, maybe another dog, but no cats. They are any size, shape or age. I don’t really know what they look like, because technically, I haven’t met them yet.

I began my search for my family at the Moncton SPCA about 3 years ago. They never came to find me, so I tried my luck at the Bathurst SPCA. While I was in Bathurst, someone mentioned that they thought my family might be looking for me at the Oromocto SPCA, so I found a ride and travelled here. The girls here at the shelter told me when I arrived here that my family would definitely find me now. And each day, they say “Maybe today is the day. Maybe today they will find you.” Everyone is constantly keeping an eye out for my family. And every day, I make sure that my fur is beautiful and brushed, my area is clean and tidy, and that I greet everyone who comes to visit. And I wait.

It’s not my family’s fault. They just don’t know where to look for me. Maybe they have been into the shelter and I missed seeing them and they missed seeing me. Maybe they haven’t come into the shelter yet, but every place they go, they peek around the corner, expecting to see me. I like to imagine them watching tv at night, looking over on the spot where I should be; going out for walks, wishing I was there to share the crisp fall mornings, and knowing that on a bad day at work or school, they are looking for that cuddle that only I can give them!

Sp please, dear Reader, if you happen to see my family, let them know I am here. Let them know that once we meet, I will be the best dog that they have ever had. I know they’re out there, looking for me. Just as much as I am looking for them.

Patiently waiting,

Kojo.

Spring is Coming!

Have you heard? Spring is coming this weekend! Warm weather, sunny skies...just what we've all been waiting for! So get your shoes on and get into your local shelter, and pet some cats! Give some treats! Ok, ok, maybe even walk a few dogs! No matter who you decide to spend time with this weekend...don't forget those of us waiting patiently in shelters for someone special like YOU to come and adopt...or cuddle...or just visit.

We'll be here...will you?

Safe At Last

On Thursday, January 12th, 2012...the NBSPCA seized another 45 dogs from neglect and abuse. 26 of those dogs have come into the care of our shelter. It was difficult to make space for everyone. But as usual, our volunteers, staff and foster parents showed the love and committment that they have for these little souls who need us so much.

Zola, a little pomeranian mix, was pregnant when she came to us. Just how pregnant, we weren't really sure. Until 2 days after she found comfort and safety with her new foster family...when she gave birth to 4 little girls and 1 little boy.

Zola is one of the lucky ones. She has a second chance. A chance to learn what the feel of grass under her feet feels like. How sweet a warm cuddle can be. The joy of treats and kisses and having her belly rubbed by people who love her. Her babies will never know what the inside of a cage looks like. And they will never have years of sadness and despair like their mom.

Please help others like Zola, and Suzabelle, and Betty and Janis....report puppy mills. It might not make a difference in your life...but it will make ALL the difference in theirs.
