Party Fun!

What a great anniversary day!! We had cake and punch and I even got presents! It was fun. I think we should find a reason to eat cake at least once a month. I'm still celebrating..so you can still bring me presents. I guess the only thing I'm missing now is a home to call my own. Maybe..for my anniversary week...my dream will come true.

Special People!

I wanted to take a little break from my party (what a surprise it was!!) to tell you about some more special people that I've met over the last couple of weeks. As you all know, we depend heavily on donations from the public to help us make sure that the orphan animals in our care have everything they need to be safe and happy. Especially the little extras that make the shelter not just somewhere where we wait to find families...but a place we can truly call home. At least until we find forever homes of our own.

Heather Porelle is a young lady who we think is truly amazing! For her birthday, she unselfishly asked her friends to bring gifts for the shelter animals instead of for her. They brought lots of fun stuff..toys and treats and canned food!! They even spent some time in the shelter cuddling and visiting with the cats and dogs and bunnies. I'm not sure who had more fun...the kids or the animals!

The other amazing group of people are the Fairley's Oromocto Open Wednesday Night Dart League. This is a group of people who were able to raise ALOT of money and supplies at their annual banquet this year! They brought in everything on our wish list and more! Our front lobby was packed with so much stuff...it was incredible!

Our heartfelt thanks goes out to these wonderful people. Without them and all of our other volunteers and donors, we couldn't take care of all of the orphans that come to us. We are truly grateful. Two paws up to Heather Porelle and her friends and to the Fairley's Oromocto Open Wednesday Night dart League....we think you are angels!

Now...back to my party and my cake. I have to keep an eye on the girls to make sure they don't eat it all. Any excuse to eat cake!

Scavenger Hunt Fun!

Want to have lots and lots of fun and help raise money to help orphan animals like me? You NEED to come and join us on Saturday, June 5th from 10am to noon to take part in our 2nd Annual Scavenger Hunt. It's SO much fun and great for the whole family!

It's easy...you pick up a pledge form at the shelter, raise some money, and then join us on Saturday. We'll give you a list of all the things you have to find. But be warned....it might not be as easy as you think but we promise it will be fun! If you promise not to tell...I will give you a hint...bring a digital camera...it might help you to earn some extra points.

There will be prizes for the teams who collect the most points and for the team that collects the most money.

You can't go wrong..spend the morning having a great time, AND raise money to help the homeless animals!

I'll be there!

It's a Party and You're Invited!!

Shhhhhhh! It's a secret! We're having a party and it's a surprise. Hissy Elliot, blogger extraordinaire and feline shelter resident will be celebrating one year of living at the shelter on May 26/2010. We want to make it a happy event..and maybe even find her a home in the process! To celebrate..all week we will be adopting shelter cats for only $50 and this will include lots of great perks! First vaccines, deworming, spay or neuter, microchipping, party gift bag and soft paws on each adopted cat! Also, on Wednesday the 26th, join us at the shelter for cake and refreshments. Hissy will gladly accept gifts which she will share with her feline friends. Hope to see you at the shelter!

My Adventure!

As you all know..I am an adventurous gal. I like things to be busy and fun. I like when people come to visit. Most of all...I like things to be exactly the way I like them. My bed where it's supposed to be. My canned cat food served early in the morning. AND...knowing that I am safe and warm in the shelter. Today...my little world was slightly shattered. Somehow, I ended up outside. It was the scariest moment in my life. Well, maybe not in my whole life..but definitely in the last few months. I was only outside for about 5 minutes, but it's not something I want to relive. Ever. It made me realize how much I love being an indoor cat. Where it's safe and where I don't ever have to worry about being hurt or getting sick.

When I find a new home...I definitely want to be an indoor cat.

Well...I have alot of napping to do. And I think I deserve an extra helping of canned food. I'm still traumatized. Canned food will definitely help.

We still have Bunnies!

We still have angora bunnies ready for adoption. We've been lucky though, we've already placed 12 in good homes..but there are still so many more to go. Each adoption takes us one step closer to having been able to help all of them. There are so many people that deserve huge thanks for helping the bunnies...from the shelters in NB and PEI, to the rescues in the eastern US, to the people who have helped with transport, the volunteers who have brought fresh fruit and veggies, the media who have helped us to spread the word, and the staff and animal protection officers who rescued the bunnies on that first day. It takes a whole group of caring, compassionate people to save so many lives. I'm so proud of the shelter/rescue community. They deserve a treat...I wonder if they like catnip?

New Summer Hours

Guess what?? We have new summer hours so that you can come and visit me even earlier on the weekends! We are going to be open at 10 am every Saturday and Sunday this summer which means there's more time to bring me treats, more time to pet me, more time to fall in love with your new "fur"ever friend!

We still have lots of bunnies, and kittens, and guinea pigs and cats and dogs. There's never a dull moment here at the shelter! We hope that you find time to come and be a part of our hustle and bustle. Even if you just want to visit and spend time with the animals...that's ok too. We love visits. Hope to see you soon!

So...between 11am and 4pm (or until the food runs out) get over to CitiFinancial and have a great meal!

PS...I prefer cheeseburgers!

Birthday fun and gifts galore!

On the weekend we had a group of young ladies who came in as part of a birthday party celebration and they brought us presents and treats! We had alot of fun with them and they stayed for awhile and did lots of cuddling and playing. I think their favorite part was cuddling the baby bunnies. Even I have to admit that they're super cute. Maybe even cuter than me...but not much.

We also had a young lady come in who had made a whole bunch of catnip toys for us. Let me tell you...all of us felines LOVED the toys! Especially me...I was having so much fun rolling around and playing that I even ran into the desk! I'm ok though...I'm a tough cookie.

I think my favorite part of the weekend, besides the catnip toy, was how many people came in to visit and adopt and cuddle. That's always been my favorite part. Maybe one day...I will have a home to call my own where all the cuddling belongs to me.

Bunnies, Rats and Guinea Pigs...Oh My!

What a week! I've been SO busy keeping an eye on all the new residents here in the shelter, that I've barely had time to blink. As many of you know..the New Brunswick SPCA animal protection officers had to seize over 100 angora bunnies, and 2 guinea pigs and 2 rats last week. The girls and I have been doing our best to help as many as we can and many other shelters have stepped in to help too! The Bathurst SPCA, Moncton SPCA, Restigouche Cty SPCA and the PEI Humane Society are all taking bunnies! And some rabbit rescue groups in the US are also arranging to take some! It's so nice to see so many wonderful people come together to help when it's most needed. This is what teamwork and compassion are all about. Fingers crossed that we can help to save ALL of the bunnies!

Here is the link to the article in the paper...http://dailygleaner.canadaeast.com/front/article/1044378

Doesn't Kari look pretty? And Megan was on TV.....I think she did a great job!!

So now..the work really begins...finding homes for all of these wonderful animals! I'm going to help. If you come in to meet the bunnies or the guinea pigs or the rats...I will show you around. I will be your private tour guide. And if you bring me a treat...I might even let you hold one of the bunnies...they're REALLY soft!

Beans and Wieners

I would like to introduce to you the newest members of our little family..the newest little 4-legged critters who are looking for homes. Beans and Wieners. Aren't they cute? Lots of people think that rats are creepy or scary or dirty...but those are people that probably just haven't met any rats. Beans and Wieners are really sweet..they love to be held and played with...they never bite..and they are really great with kids! Now that I think of it...maybe I shouldn't be telling you all how terrific they are...I would hate for people to overlook me when they come to visit. Ummm...I have to go...I have some rat cages that need to be moved to the back room. See you soon!

I'm Back!

I know...I know!! You don't even have to say it! I have been ignoring my blog duties over the last few days. But it's been so busy with animals being adopted and people visiting, that I hope you'll all forgive me.

Sadly, Homer and Angel are no longer going to be parents. A few days ago, one of the eggs cracked. And then today, when the girls came in...they found the other 3 broken and cracked as well. It was very sad but Homer and Angel are doing fine.

On a happier note..we have fun little kittens ready for adoption and lots of cats and some little dogs too! We even have 2 rats named Beans and Weiners that are looking for a new home!! I'll try to get pictures of them so you can see how tasty, I mean cute, they are. (PS...Beans and Weiners LOVE McDonald's hamburgers so maybe you could bring them one...and I could share it with them if they can't eat it all themselves.)

So...come and visit! The weather is beautiful and we're all here waiting just for you. COME ON!!
