Emerald's Happy Ending!

To those of you who visit the shelter regularly..you know that Emerald is a little black lab mix dog who has been with us since February of 2010. She came to us from a home where she had to compete with many other dogs and cats for food and attention, and to top it all off...she was pregnant. So off to foster care Emerald went and there she was able to give birth to her babies and learn that love was something she was going to get lots of from now on. Because she is so shy..it took her a long time to learn to trust again. And even now...after 6 months...she is still extremely shy with people that she does not know.

Of course, everyone here at the shelter loves Emerald VERY much. She has become part of our hearts and we cross our fingers every day that her turn for a forever home will come soon.

And today is that day!! Emerald is going home with her new people this afternoon and we couldn't be more excited!

We know that it will be bittersweet....it's hard to watch them go when we love them so much...but we know that Emerald deserves to have an amazing wonderful forever family!

Good luck Emerald...we love you and wish you the best!

  3. Sweet girl! Sometimes it just takes a little patience and understanding with shelter dogs.

Your description of her former life..having to compete for food and attention--in people terms makes it sound like living in a concentration camp..but then pregnant on top of that..just sounds like whomever the caretakers were, were NOT taking care of any of the animals!

So glad that she had a wonderful foster experience, the time to give birth and love and tend to her pups and now find her own home where she will be loved and fed. A home to call her own.

    Thanks for sharing Hissy!
